Grading guided rides in the Peak District is difficult and subjective because the weather plays a big part. To try and help you understand and choose which guided ride is best for you we have written the following grading key.
Suitable for off road mountain bikers with a good basic skills level. Flowing single tracks and wider tracks that may incorporate small rocks and loose surfaces.
Most of the gradients are moderate and all are rideable but will include some short steady climbs and descents. A good basic level of fitness will help you get the most out of these trails.
Suitable for proficient mountain bikers with a good riding skills and a good quality mountain bike. Tougher challenging gradients are rideable with determination. Technical single track riding on exposed moorland is incorporated into these routes.
Surfaces vary depending on weather conditions although you can always guarantee loose rocks and medium drop off's.
A good level of fitness and stamina is required to get the best out of these trails with moderate experience of longer riding in the saddle
Suitable for proficient mountain bikers with experience of riding natural challenging trails. A quality off road mountain bike is required to ride these physically demanding trails.
Severe gradients which require commitment and determination with some "downhill" style descents. Surfaces will include large rocks, rutted terrain and steep drop off's.
The fitter you are the more you will enjoy these routes, a good level of fitness and experience of prolonged effort is a good start.
All routes have variations, extensions and shortcuts that can be adapted to suit weather conditions, riding skills and the fitness levels of participants. If you have any questions about which ride will suit your ability then please call or email us. The scenery is outstanding and we want your ride to be enjoyable and entertaining, we also want it to be challenging so you will have a sense of achievement when you get back to base.
